Siemens as partner for sport:
New access and ticketing system for the Gottlieb Daimler Stadium

Munich, June 15, 2005

The City of Stuttgart has commissioned Siemens to set up a new access and ticketing system for its Gottlieb Daimler Stadium. The new system must meet the high demands of both the Organization Committee and FIFA for the World Cup 2006. Siemens Communications will handle the project management and install, together with its partner Skidata, a solution that implements state-of-the-art methods in access control and security. Winning this bid gives Siemens the opportunity to now bring another German sports stadium up to FIFA standards after the AOL Stadium in Hamburg.

The contract is part of a comprehensive modernization program for the Gottlieb Daimler Stadium in Stuttgart for the 2006 World Cup. Together with its partner Skidata, Siemens offers a solution that supports RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology and will hence provide the spectator with faster, more secure access to the stadium. The new access system can read and check the validity of tickets equipped with an RFID chip, and will thus prevent entry with forged tickets and the abuse of access authorization. This technology should be used during the 2006 World Cup. The new access system will put the Gottlieb Daimler Stadium in full compliance with FIFA requirements.

The system will also be able to read any personalized information which may have been encoded on the ticket chips for specific target groups. This will make it easier, for example, to keep certain groups of fans apart in the stadium or make targeted cross-selling offers.
The access solution can offer even more: Club members or season ticket holders could in future be admitted to the stadium with their RFID-equipped membership card or season ticket. The chip might even conceivably be used to store credit that can then be used for cashless payments at concession stands inside the stadium.

The system offered by Siemens has already proven itself with flying colors at other major events like the UEFA European Football Championship in Portugal.
